Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Forum score: still nil...(nonDEAD, BD/skies related)

OK, for those of you that missed the point of MY "editing of a post to bring to the top" a while ago, I will restate, for no real purpose but to provide entertainment for the perplexed newbies...

Rob is fundamentally right (see post below to Monte...no, I won't link it for you). And yes, hobgoblin that he is, he has been consistent in this regard. Within a month of my arrival here, three yrs ago, I quit the Forum in a huff, along with McGlone, since we too were bothered by the blatant insensitivity of the posters...what did it get us? A quiet return and a begrudging acceptance of the fact that Rob's right: much as I desire it, or you do, it ain't gonna change...As Earl added to Rob's lament, "take a val, and let it go".

So, skies, if you don't see BD's joke, you really need to follow Earl's advice (BD's a good man--I know this, and he doesn't need me to say that to validate him anyhow, and you only encourage it with your protests too boot). CLIFF's a good man too, and though sympathetic to his concerns with Rich, skies and the pub crew, his voicing it is no different than Healy telling me to "clean it up!". Our collective whining is really no different than the offense, though of course, CLIFF and I see it differently, we have no exalted status...yet.

So, we are all guilty of the same offence--we all come here to some degree to socialize, AND we all wish it were a better place (each in our own way), AND we all get upset when someone lets us in on the fact that THEIR way ain't OUR way (witness Healy calling Tell a scumbag).

That's the way it is, right?

Very nice show. The Dark Star doesn't work for me - a little too scattered or free form.
But no surprise there's a low spot in a 4-1/2 hour show.
Worth a listen & then some.

Excuse me, TJ, that's the Total Running Time (in this case, "4-1/2 hour"). It is NOT anything close to being the same thing as the length of the Show. It was an 8-hour show! Look at your watch when you hear the 1st notes next time you go to a show. Then look again when the band says Good Night, for the last time at the end of the show. If you've never been to a show: there are breaks in-between tunes; breaks in-between sets are nearly an hour; other times there are technical issues causing some delays. I made this banter track to humor that fact.

Tell, you know I'm you're friend so please don't get all sensitively paranoid about this, but would you please just shut the fuck up about the Healey thing? Take a deep breath and just let it go. Just let it go.

And as far as 'Rob's lament' goes - d'you think I post all this garbage to the sound of fucking bagpipe music?

That's just the way it is - somethings'll never change.

Am I really mis-spelling "Healy" as "Healy" instead of "Healey"?

WTF?

Sorry Rob, I gotta go edit ALL my posts and thus, bring them to the top, and hence, I won't have to address ANY of the issues you raised...

You know I love you, you rabid English editing maniac!

I'm sorry, Will - that was my mistake. It's definitely Dan Healy (without the e) I was thinking Brit politician Dennis Healey (with the e). My apologies, sagacious one.

somebody came on and posted with the user name "Dan Healy" about how this is a great place (the best GD forum on the net) but raised a complaint about how every good thread that actually goes deep into discussing the music invariably gets hijacked.

he also chastised WTell for leg-humping any and all females that posted here :)

Well said DP! Yes, Dire, you missed it...and it actually caused me some concern, I'll tell you...til Rob bitch slapped him from Here to Eternity, and decided that I get to play Burt Lancaster, and you're Deborah Kerr (I woulda said "Miss D" but everyone would think "oh yeah, here he goes again!").

BTW, on movie trivia, SDH gets to play Ernest Borgnine, and CLIFF, as a youngster, can stand in for Montgomery Cliff (what a role!)...

Is Diana gonna be Donna Reed?

Have you ever watched how the mood and typing in here changes when a "female" wanders in?

How chivalrous and polite everyone becomes?

It's pretty funny... especially since 99% of "females" online are actually bald dudes in boxer shorts trying for cyber man love.

Funny stuff.

hey, WT

not making excuses, but... truth be told it was the blatant insensitivity toward ONE particular poster who publicly admitted he was going through a rough patch that soured me on the forum. the pack mentality/feeding frenzy at his expense was at times unconscionable. some years later that very same poster lost his partner after a long battle and the forumites (to a man) rallied around him in his darkest hour.

oh yeah, do keep in mind prior to my short lived departure to lurkerdom, i was cozying up to the forum 5 mornings a week with a case of cold ones and a fistful of fatties. ahhh good times ; )

much like then, i don't have a point other than i'm very fond of this place.

ian

Hey Ian--yep, now that you reminded me, I recall that...I fancied myself as a knight in shining armor I suppose, and saw that and the rest, but, I was sooo much older then, eh?

I value that you consider me a friend; it's not what we accomplish in this world as much as what we overcome. I think we've both had a bit of that behind us, and every time I think of trout in the Wicklow, I think of you and your dad...
